iGuard 999

Terms and limitations

Last updated 1 November 2026

The short version

IGuard 999 is a free tool that helps you contact people you trust when you need help. It is not an emergency service and it does not replace calling 999. If you are in danger, call 999 first. If you cannot speak, call 999 and then press 55 when prompted (UK Silent Solution).

What the service does

When you press the help button, shake your phone, or share a journey, we send an alert to the contacts you chose, with a link to your live location. Your contacts can call you, follow you on a map, or call the police themselves. We do not contact the police or any emergency service for you.

Why it may not always work

Alerts and tracking depend on things we do not control, so delivery, location accuracy and tracking are not guaranteed. They can fail or be delayed because of:

  • no mobile signal, weak GPS, a flat battery, or your phone being in battery saver or silent mode;
  • your phone or browser pausing the page or app, for example when the screen locks;
  • notification, location or battery settings that block alerts, or a permission you have not allowed;
  • your contacts not seeing, receiving or acting on an alert, or their email or phone not working;
  • faults, maintenance or outages on our servers or those of our suppliers (email, push notification and mapping providers).

Web version: tracking works while the help page is open and the screen is on. For tracking while the phone is locked, use the Android app. Even then it is not guaranteed.

Free service, provided as it is

IGuard 999 is a free, self-funded service. It is provided "as is" and "as available", with no promise that it will be uninterrupted, error free or always available. We may change, pause or stop the service, or remove accounts that are misused, at any time.

Our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for loss, harm or damage that results from an alert or tracking not being sent, received, accurate or acted on, or from the service being unavailable. You use it as an extra layer of help, not as your only safeguard.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any rights you have under consumer law.

Your responsibilities

  • Only add people who know you are adding them and have agreed to be your contacts. Keep their details accurate.
  • Keep your cancel PIN and your personal help link private. Anyone with the link can send an alert in your name.
  • Check your phone settings, allow location and notifications, and test that alerts work for you.
  • Do not send false alerts, misuse the service to harass or track someone without their consent, or try to interfere with it.
  • You must be 13 or over. If you are under 16, set it up with a parent or guardian.

If you are a contact

Someone you know has chosen you as a contact. Receiving an alert does not make you responsible for their safety. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 999. You can remove yourself at any time from the link in your welcome email.

Your data

How we collect and use personal information is explained in our privacy policy. We never sell your data.

Changes and the law
